If you’re an experienced skilled trades professional and considering a career change to project management, enrolling in Langara College’s Advanced Project Management Program is a great place to start.
This six-course certificate program will provide you with all the essential skills and knowledge that you need for a smooth transition to a successful career in project management. The short courses with flexible online and/or in-person study options can be completed in as little as 14 weeks or spread over several terms for a maximum of two years.
Participants will obtain the Advanced Project Management Certificate upon successful completion of all six courses and a final exam. Here’s a brief summary of the course content:
Fundamentals and introduction to the terminology, approaches, and processes of project management. Students will learn to define project needs, identify and work with stakeholders, and develop a functional project charter.
Learn functional project planning skills, which include developing the full project plan, explore scope definition, resources estimation, critical path, scheduling, budgeting, risk planning. Developing project plan via Microsoft Project, other planning tools.
Achieve project success by controlling and implementing performance to achieve project success. The course also teaches students to apply practical techniques to manage and track project performance. Earned Value Management, quality management, procurement and contract management.
Learn about problem solving, essential leadership skills, negotiation, conflict resolution, and team development. Fundamental concepts of motivation, influence, team dynamics, and communication will also be taught.
This course explores how to close a completed project or phase and improve future projects. Students will also learn how to use project closing tools and techniques to learn lessons, complete administrative and financial closure, and gain final acceptance from sponsors.
Apply various concepts, skills, and experiences from previous courses to a comprehensive and integrated project. Includes a final exam.
